The Ronald McDonald Family Room® program extends the comfort of a Ronald McDonald House® to a hospital setting. Typically located just steps from neonatal or pediatric intensive care units, the Family Room provides a place to escape the stress and tension of the hospital.

NEW Ronald McDonald House at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital
In January 2007, Ronald McDonald House of Houston opened a House inside Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital. The RMH at CMHH will feature 15 bedrooms, on two floors, open to families of children being treated in the PICU and NICU areas of the hospital. The rooms will be used for nap time, overnight stays, and for the hospital's "Care by Parent" program for the NICU.

The "Care by Parent" program allows a family with a child who is able to go home to spend those final in-hospital days with the patient, learning to provide the necessary long term care. In this way, the parents transitions into becoming the primary caregiver. Depending on the patient's condition, families could be trained on basic CPR techniques, proper usage of a feeding tube, and proper usage of a ventilator.

Each floor of the RMH at CMHH offers a large Family Lounge area with kitchen and living space, computer access, and laundry area. Volunteers work along with staff members to provide services to the families.

This is the third House for RMH Houston. The organization also operates a 50-bedroom House on Holcombe Boulevard and a 20-bedroom House inside Texas Children's Hospital. The in-hospital programs also include an Inpatient Family Room and a Cancer Center Outpatient Family Room inside TCH.
