NEW Ronald McDonald House at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital
In January 2007, Ronald McDonald House of Houston opened a House inside Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital. The RMH at CMHH will feature 15 bedrooms, on two floors, open to families of children being treated in the PICU and NICU areas of the hospital. The rooms will be used for nap time, overnight stays, and for the hospital's "Care by Parent" program for the NICU.
The "Care by Parent" program allows a family with a child who is able to go home to spend those final in-hospital days with the patient, learning to provide the necessary long term care. In this way, the parents transitions into becoming the primary caregiver. Depending on the patient's condition, families could be trained on basic CPR techniques, proper usage of a feeding tube, and proper usage of a ventilator. |
