Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Greater Houston/Galveston, Inc. funds grants to other not-for-profit organizations whose programs directly benefit our local children in the areas of education and healthcare.

Some of the programs that RMHC has sponsored in 2006 include:

  • Texas Children’s Hospital Passport for Care program
  • Neighborhood Centers at Ripley House
  • Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital-Tuberous Sclerosis Clinic
  • University of Texas Medical Branch- Child Development Clinic
  • Houston Fire Department “Report Card” Program

INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS
Effective March 1, 2005 

GENERAL APPLICATION INFORMATION

  • Applications should be submitted a minimum of 4 months before funds are required.
  • DO NOT send video or audiotapes, binders or notebooks, please.
  • RMHC/GHG will acknowledge receipt of your application and will request additional information if necessary.
  • RMHC/GHG provides notice immediately upon final disposition but does not provide status reports during the review process.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Grants are not made to individuals.
  • Grant requests will be considered only from tax exempt organizations described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (the “Code”) and further classified as a public charity within the meaning of Section 509(a) of the Code, or governmental units described in Section 170 of the Code.
  • RMCH/GHG will consider only one application from an organization within a twelve-month period.
  • No proposal from an organization previously funded by RMHC/GHG will be considered unless a full and timely report of expenditure of the previous grant has been submitted.
    • RMHC/GHG prefers not to make pledges beyond the current year.
    • RMHC is most interested in organizations in the Houston/Galveston area that have:
      • Consistent and effective management,
      • Clear goals and objectives,
      • Broad base of funding support,
      • A demonstrated ability to respond to the needs of specific groups of children in a manner that yields measurable results.

GENERAL INCLUSION

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Houston/Galveston
awards grants in the areas of:

  • Children’s Healthcare
  • Children’s Education

GENERAL EXCLUSIONS

Typically, RMHC/GHG does not fund:

  • Grants to individuals in the form of scholarships or any other assistance.
  • Grants to religious organizations for religious purposes.
  • Grants intended directly or indirectly to support candidates for political office or to influence legislation.
  • Advertising or fundraising drives.
  • Ongoing salaries or travel expenses.
  • Endowment campaigns
  • General and administrative costs.

___ Interim financial statement of income and expenses from time of last audit to present

___ Most recent copy of organization's IRS tax exempt status letter

II. GRANT APPLICATION SUMMARY FORM

Please complete the Grant Application Summary Form, being sure to address all questions. Do not leave areas blank or refer to “attached” information.

III. SUPPORT INFORMATION TO BE ENCLOSED

A. List of Board members/Officers/Advisory Board, the percentage of directors who have contributed to the endeavor financially and the total amount of their contributions in the past year.

B. Current organizational operating budget and specific budget for the program to be funded.

C. List of other sources of support for the project, including the amount committed or the amount requested if a response is pending. (Please provide updates as they occur.)

D. Most recent audited financial statement.

E. Interim financial statement of income and expenses from time of last audit to present

F. Most recent copy of the applicant’s status as an exempt organization for federal income tax purposes.

If RMHC/GHG requests additional information, failure to submit such within 30days will result in removal of the application from the review process.

IV. SIGNATURES

The chief administrator or executive officer as well as the Board president or chair, must sign the completed application.

PROJECT FUNDING

The Board of Directors of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Houston/Galveston has the responsibility for the final approval of each grant. We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to become familiar with your interest in children and your efforts to improve their lives. Unfortunately, RMHC/GHG receives funding requests far in excess of its ability to fund. A decision not to fund a proposal does not reflect on the merits of the applicant or the value of the proposal.
